The opportunity to become a remote worker has its privileges. One requires a good education, experience in a remote-based job role, and access to the tools and resources to excel in remote work. For many digital nomads, access to these privileges comes easy, but what about those who haven’t been offered the same opportunities?
Purpose-led social enterprise Nomads Giving Back! is bridging this remote work divide and providing a step up for local students through their Skillshare With Impact program. The 4-week program, run by the team behind Nomads Giving Back! and Nomads Skillshare, teaches a variety of skills that support the professional and personal growth of students from the local community so they can live the life they imagine.
Their flagship program recently launched in Bali, Indonesia where 9 Indonesian students are participating in 12 sessions including 8 two-hour workshops & 4 two-hour co-working sessions to collaborate on assignments. Students learn a variety of skills including résumé writing, interview techniques and personal development.
Wisnu Wardana spoke about his experience in a recent testimonial:
“My dream is to become a Data Scientist. Through this course, I’ve learned how to find my Ikigai (why), how to build my résumé and how to build a personal brand. Never in my life would have I learned to treat my LinkedIn like my Instagram.”

Providing opportunities for local communities is not a new concept to Tarek and his team at Nomad Giving Back!. Since 2018, the social enterprise has worked on bridging the gap between nomads and locals by informing, inspiring and empowering nomads, travellers and remote workers to give back to the communities they call ‘home away from home’.
“For many of us nomads, the ability to work AND travel gives us the opportunity to live the lives we imagined and helps us evolve into global citizens. Our aim, as global citizens, is to expedite these opportunities for others so they can live the life they imagine.”
Tarek Kholoussy, Founder Nomads Giving Back! & Nomads Skillshare
In order to raise funds to provide these scholarships, Tarek and his team have created fundraising initiatives such as the upcoming Bali Beach Run Fundraiser. The idea behind a fundraiser run is to crowdsource fundraising around an interesting event. The team have set the goal of raising $10,000 which will support 55 scholarships.
